The Environmental Relative Moldiness Index (ERMI) is a test that quantifies the DNA of mould spores and spore equivalents (fragments) in a sample of dust using MSQPCR (Mould Specific Quantified PCR). This is a screening test that can be done by current and prospective homeowners or ideally by IEP/BB/mycologist. ERMI tests for 36 different species of fungi. The HERTSMI-2 score can be calculated from the ERMI report or done as a stand alone test, that looks at 5 species of fungi. The HERTSMI-2 score is endorsed by Dr Shoemaker as the most accurate building test for CIRS patients (Shoemaker & Lark, 2016).
